Early versions of our EvoBeaker program and laboratories were developed in part with funding from two NSF grants. The first grant funded development of a prototype of the Guppies lab, while the second helped us enhance the prototype and add more labs using an extensive formative and summative assessment protocol. Classes at over 50 schools around the U.S. participated in these assessments, which led to major improvements in EvoBeaker and directly tested the effectiveness of our Flowers and Trees and Darwinian Snails labs. See the research page for papers that resulted from this grant.
In January 2008, we began work on a new NSF-funded evolution project to focus on teaching four topics:
- Hardy-Weinberg
- Genetic drift
- Tree-thinking
- Using models to understand biology
