Investigating the Role of Bacterial and Plasmid Characteristics on Insulin Production
The assessment asks students to investigate the hypothesis that bacterial and plasmid characteristics impact insulin production. Specifically, students are asked to explore how bacterial characteristics, plasmid size, and plasmid concentration impact the amount of insulin produced. Students are presented with data on seven variables gathered from studies on this hypothesis including things such as bacteria species, Gram stain, plasmid concentration, transformation efficiency (measured by colonies/µg plasmid) and insulin concentration. Students are then asked to plot three predictions drawn from the hypothesis by graphing the appropriate variables for each prediction. Each graph represents a different task in the assessment.
