Investigating the Role of Urbanization on Lizard Evolution
The assessment asks students to test a hypothesis about the role of natural versus urban environments on lizard evolution. Specifically, students are asked to investigate the impact environment and temperature play in lizard body length, scale density and heat tolerance. Students were presented with data on seven variables gathered from studies on this hypothesis including collection site type, collection date, noon air temperature, lizard body length, dorsal scale count and heat tolerance (measured in CTmax). Students are then asked to plot three predictions drawn from the hypothesis by graphing the appropriate variables for each prediction. Each graph represents a different task in the assessment.
