The SimBio Active Learning System™ is our next-generation, web-based delivery system, which will replace the SimUText System®. The new system has improved accessibility, runs on Chromebooks, and includes several new interactive tutorials and features. While some features of the new system are under development, we are scaling up and are excited to make it available for eligible Summer 2026 courses!

Overview

The SimBio Active Learning System™ is a customizable subscription-based platform, allowing instructors to pick and choose content to fit their curriculum. Selected materials are assigned and delivered via a feature-rich system designed to help instructors and students stay organized and up-to-date.

The SimBio Active Learning System™ has been extensively field-tested and used in classrooms worldwide, where professors report that it greatly increases the quality of class participation. Student feedback is similarly positive!

Instructor Platform
The Instructor Platform serves as the command center for your class. A detailed Setup Checklist and tour walks you through adding course sections, managing co-instructors, creating assignments and due dates, scoring questions, and distributing student registration information. The Instructor Platform includes tools to monitor student performance on auto-graded questions. Scores can be exported and uploaded to your learning management system.
SimBio Active Learning System™
Registered students use the web-based SimBio Active Learning System™ to access and manage their assignments. The interface lists assigned material by due date and tracks overall progress and performance on auto-graded questions. Students can review extension information, glossary terms and formulas, learning objectives, and assignment summaries.

Based in beautiful Missoula, Montana, SimBio strives to provide excellent active learning tools and world-class support for biology instructors and students. We regularly host webinars to help instructors become familiar with the SimBio Active Learning System™ and demo content. Most questions find a quick answer using our helpful  Instructor Help Center.
