From Thought to Plot: Revealing Undergraduate Biology Student Graphing Practices
– Dr. Stephanie Gardner, Purdue University
This webinar occurred on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
Description:
Undergraduate biology students often struggle with graphing. Perhaps this is not surprising given that graphing requires knowledge in the discipline, in data analysis methodologies, in math and statistics, and in data visualization. In this webinar, I’ll share our findings on how student graphing differs from that of more experienced graphers, common student challenges when graphing, and a framework we developed for helping biology students learn to make better graphs. I’ll also share a model of graph construction and upcoming graphing assessments we are developing with the research team at SimBio. You should leave with some new ideas on how to help your students become better graphers.
